TOP-RANKED THREE YEARS RUNNING
The National Football League (NFL) and the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) released their annual Helmet Laboratory Testing Performance Results, and, for the third consecutive year, the VICIS ZERO1 helmet earned the top-ranked position. The ZERO1 outperformed all helmets tested, underscoring VICIS’ continued leadership in technology and innovation.
Each year, the NFL and NFLPA collaborate with independent biomechanical experts to conduct extensive laboratory testing on helmets. The annual testing assesses the performance of all helmets in use in the NFL to determine their ability to best reduce the severity of head impacts, empowering athletes to make more informed decisions about their protective equipment.
According to the NFL’s “Play Smart Play Safe” website, the test conditions are intended to represent potentially injurious head impacts in the NFL and the results should not be extrapolated to collegiate, high school, and youth play.
The NFL/NFLPA test protocol was developed following extensive analysis of actual on-field impacts, with in-depth consideration of the frequency, location, and velocity of these impacts. The test protocol relies on actual NFL impacts to inform its design.
We believe it’s important to test helmets in the laboratory. It’s a highly controlled environment to perform experiments and is the international standard for developing safety systems, particularly for automobile safety, which is a very good analog for helmet safety. VICIS was founded by thought-leading engineers and physicians. We believe helmet decisions should be based on rigorous science and objective data.
